Home Schooling: Place Value — Why Isn’t there a Oneth Place?

Home Schooling: Place Value — Why Isn’t there a Oneth Place?

I’m on day 8 of homeschooling my 5th grader, and he got stumped on place value of decimals. It took me a little bit, but I was like “I’ve got this.” As I was preparing the games and touchables I would use with him (I strung a piece of yarn across our folding table and clipped name badge holders to it with an explanation of “whole number,” “decimal point,” “tenths,” “hundredths,” and “thousandths” place.)

Never one to miss an opportunity if I can help it, I then wrote about it. Follow the link to see how it turned out.

BTW — my son and I spent 20 minutes on this lesson. We didn’t talk time and we didn’t do most of the asides I mentioned. But we got through it, and my son BREEZED through the assessment with a perfect score. YES!! Made my day!
